System for Cemented and Uncemented Revision
Classical methods of cement removal in revision surgery involve the use of potentially damaging instruments such as hammers, chisels, drills and high speed burrs.
The OSCAR System uses ultrasound energy to remove all types of prosthetics - cemented and uncemented - using specialist probes for usual/unusual procedures. Cement removal using OSCAR is extremely rapid, and can normally be accomplished in 25 minutes or less. The risk of bone perforation or fracture is negligible when OSCAR is used, as the probes are designed to emit a characteristic sound the moment they come into contact with the bone surface. It also has additional capability for help in removing uncemented prosthetics. The equipment is simple to operate, and both efficient and predictable in its performance. It has been designed with surgeons scrub nurses, technicians and hospital engineers in mind and its use permits the accurate scheduling of operating lists.
